Overview

Supervises and coordinates activities of workers engaged in the hot line process in the finishing department. Is responsible for the overall direction, coordination, and evaluation of these units.  Carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization’s policy and applicable laws.

Responsibilities

 

  • Examine material at various stages of production.
  • Observe machinery and identify any malfunctions or issues.
  • Interpret specifications provided for production tasks.
  • Adjust work procedures as necessary to meet quality standards and production goals.
  • Suggest changes in work conditions to optimize efficiency and safety.
  • Resolve work problems promptly and effectively.
  • Maintain accurate time and production records for tracking purposes.
  • Ensure production levels meet established targets and goals.
  • Collaborate closely with maintenance supervisors to ensure consistent production and address equipment maintenance needs.
  • Ensure that training, Job Safety Analysis (JSA), Pure Safety, and Safety Talks are completed daily, weekly, and monthly.
  • Conduct safety audits regularly to identify and address potential hazards.
  • Implement and enforce lockout/tagout procedures to prevent accidents and injuries.
  • Handle disciplinary actions for hourly staff as needed, in accordance with company policies.
  • Interpret company policies and enforce safety regulations to maintain a safe working environment
  • Analyze work orders to estimate worker hours and create machine schedules that meet production needs.
  • Plan the flow of materials through the department based on work orders and production schedules.
  • Monitor machines and equipment for malfunctions and order adjustments or repairs as necessary.
  • Establish or adjust work procedures to ensure efficient production and adherence to quality standards.
  • Ensure that subordinates are using their provided personal protective devices in accordance with the company's safety policy

Supervisory Responsibilities

Directly supervises a team of 15 to 20 employees within the Hot Line department, ensuring compliance with organizational policies and relevant regulations. Key duties encompass conducting interviews, facilitating hiring processes, providing comprehensive training, strategizing work assignments, coordinating task execution, evaluating performance, coordinating rewards and disciplinary actions, handling complaints, and effectively resolving operational issues.

Qualifications

High school diploma or general degree (GED); or one to three years of related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience. 

Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals.  Ability to write routine reports and correspondence.  Ability to speak effectively. Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written and/oral form.  Must be computer literate.
