    Job Summary:

     

    Plans and coordinates the purchasing and receiving of raw materials by working with production departments, suppliers and transportation to ensure adequate products are in stock as needed to run the plant.  Manages and reports inventory levels.  Utilizes a sound knowledge of the principles, practices, and legalities of purchasing and procurement, and reliable techniques and practices in all aspects of procurement.  Negotiates contracts with vendors

    Responsibilities

    Key Responsibilities:

     

    • Negotiate and purchase all raw materials
    • Prepare and issue raw material purchase orders and change orders.
    • Expedite purchases as needed
    • Coordinate and negotiate all logistics for raw material purchases
    • Work with Corporate Supply Chain as needed
    • Is available to handle any issues that might occur 24 hours/day
    • Perform daily, weekly and monthly raw material inventories
    • Work with Accounting to reconcile inventories at the end of each month
    • Post all incoming raw material receipts daily in MAS
    • Work with the raw material supply base to resolve and correct any vendor issues
    • Develop second & third suppliers for each raw material
    • Work with each department head to develop new raw materials that are better than what we currently using
    • Perform on-site supplier audits
    • Complete an annual supplier evaluation for each raw material supplier
    • Work with the raw material suppliers to make continual improvement to their annual suppler evaluation
    • Gain a clear understanding of what we use each raw material for in our operation
    • Manage the raw material usage by making sure we use FIFO method for all raw materials
    • Develop a system to email all raw material purchase orders to suppliers
    • Maintain the approved vendor list
    • Keep all raw material procedures and listings current
    • Work with Accounts Payable and suppliers to resolve any issues
    • Create and maintain any reports as needed
    • Train as a back-up for scrap purchases
    • Train on the receiving process for international purchases
    • Attend training and stay current on the basics of international purchasing

    Qualifications

    Qualifications To perform this job successfully, an individual must

     

    • Multi-task and exhibit a strong sense of urgency
    • Demonstrates the ability to influence with strong teamwork attitude
    • Have knowledge of inventory practices (ROP/ROQ, SS, EOQ, Min/Max, FIFO, Kanbans, etc.)
    • Have knowledge of the transportation industry
    • Be self-motivated with good time management practices
    • Be detail oriented

     

    Education and Experience Requirements:

     

    Education and/or Experience:          High school diploma or general education degree (GED), 2 years of experience as a buyer in a manufacturing industry, as well as 2 years of experience in logistics required.  Must have experience and knowledge of inventory practices and negotiation techniques.  International procurement experience a plus.

     

    Language Skills:        Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations.  Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals.  Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, clients, customers, and the general public.

     

    Mathematical Skills:  Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as proportions, percentages, area, circumference and volume.  Ability to apply concepts of basic algebra and geometry.

     

    Reasoning Ability:     Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions, apply common sense and solve practical problems. Ability to interpret an extensive variety of instructions or information furnished in written, oral or diagram form.

     

    Computer Skills:        Computer literate, proficient in Microsoft Windows, Office programs and applications such as word processing, email, database management and well versed in excel.  Experience in ERP system; experience with SAGE 500 or JD Edwards a plus.                       

     

    Certificates, Licenses, Registrations: CPIM from APICS or commitment to achieve
